Dear Mom,

Happy New Year to all of you. I hope the next one we’ll see up all together again.

I am leaving today to go back to my company. It takes about 10 days to get there so there may be a period of no mail from me during that time. Don’t let it bother you. I’ll try to write again as soon as possible.

Not much else to tell you. Regards to all the folks. And take good care of yourself. Love Louie

Dear Mom,

Am writing this in hope of shipping out of an English post. This will then be mailed from France.

I am feeling fine and my only complaint is that I gained about ten pounds in the time I was back in England. However, I suppose the getting back to my company will take care of that.

Another thing that bothers me and this is the main thing, is not getting my mail this going back means about a month with no mail and then it will be monthly mail which has chased me all over Europe. I also expect to get my packages before long. At least by Easter I should have most of them.
I hope you are all well and able to keep warm with the cold weather you have been getting. Regards to all. I’ll write again soon. Take good care of yourself. Love Louie

Dear Mom,
Am still on my way back to my company. I hope you are all well and happy. I, of course, haven’t had any mail since the 1st and that was a letter of the 12th of Dec. so you can see I am behind the home news for some time.

Right now I am in France and not far from Paris. I had hoped to again get to that place but I guess not. There isn’t much free time for any body these days.

I had a ride of 48 hours to get here from Le Havre and that was made in one of 40 hopes (?) or eight men boxcars and it wasn’t very comfortable.

Not much else to say at this time My regards to all the family take care of yourself Love Louie

Dear Mom,

Just a few lines to let you know that I am well and as yet haven’t gotten back to my company. It is proving to be a long drawn out process. I expect that it will be another week before I finally get back to them.

I suppose the rest of the family is a bit put out because I haven’t been writing. I’ll catch up when I get up there.

News seems pretty good now and I hope it keeps up.

Not much else to say. Best regards to everyone. Take good care of yourself. Love Louie

Dear Helen

I would have written much sooner but getting back to my own outfit is and has been a real checker game. One move after the other. I have been in about six different camps in France and as yet am not back to my outfit. It looks tho that I will get there in a couple of days.
I will be glad to get back up there for one thing only and that is to my mail. I haven’t had any in over a month and so I am anxious to read some home news.

I hope all of you at home are well and have enjoying the cold winter you are having. We, here, are getting plenty of snow and cold weather. I have on so much clothes that it is a job to get around.

Not much else to write except thanks lots for the box you sent out. I expect to get it soon.
Regards to Henry and the Kids. Yours Louie

Dear Mom, Just a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope that all of you at home are the same.

I am still on my way back to my company and expect to be back with them in a couple of days. It has been a long tiresome trip back but the only thing that I am in a hurry to get back for is to get my mail from home as the last I heard was the mail sent me in the middle of Dec. I also expect to finally reach some of the packages sent me. I wrote most everyone and thanked them for the things they sent but so far I haven’t gotten any of them. It makes me look like an ungrateful pig but it isn’t my fault. Not much else to say at this time. Regards to Ellie and the upstairs. How did the baby shop do in ’44? Take good care of yourself Love Louie

Dear Mom, Just to let you know that I am feeling fine and hope that all of you back there are in good health also.

I finally got back to my company after 23 days of assorted types of traveling. Best boxcar and truck. I found them in Luxembourg and as that makes one more country that I have been in in Europe.

My first letter in over a month was one from Millie in which she wrote about Chaim(?). I was very sorry to learn the news. Please give the family my sympathy.

My last few letters home have been Vmail as I was told that they go back faster than our mail, however I would rather get air mail from home as it makes one feel closer.

This country is very pretty now. It is cold with about a foot of snow and the cold weather goes with it.

Not much else to say at this time. My regards to Ellie, Millie and the rest of them Take good care of yourself I’ll write again soon Love Louie

So he's being released from the hospital around this time. That's roughly 6 weeks in the hospital. Sounds like a pretty serious injury to me.

My guess is that it took him nearly a month to rejoin his company because they were on the move and maybe they weren't sure of their exact location.
