Chick Chasen is down here and I am going to look him up.

Don’t write until I tell you. I’ll call Sunday. Love Louie

Monday (June 8, 1942?)
Dear Folks,

Just to let you know that I am being sent to Camp Gordon in Georgia. It is about 125 miles south of here. They say it is a new camp and that things are good there.

I’ll call Sunday and tell you the new address. It is very hot here and I hope that the new camp will be cooler as it is in the Georgia hills. It’s about 75 miles from Atlanta which is supposed to be a nice place.

Will close with love and till Sunday

Louie

If the girls call up tell them not to write until I send the new address as the mail will be delayed a long time because of the shift.

Dear Mom,

I just got here after riding about 9 hours to do about 120 miles they took us here by a roundabout way.

So far what I have seen of this place it doesn’t look too bad. From what I hear they keep you here 4 months or longer which of course is allright.

We are about 16 miles from Augusta which from what I have seen of it is a nice looking town. I also think that it may be a little cooler here which sounds strange because we are further south than at Camp Croft.

I am happy to hear that Izzy is taking care of everything. Don’t forget to give him something. I sent everything ahead and it hasn’t been sorted out yet so I am filthy and can’t do a thing about it until tomorrow.

My new address is as follows

Pvt Louis Cohen
Co. L. 22nd Inf
Camp Gordon, GA

I will try to call Sunday as usual until then Love Louie

Sunday (June? 1942?)
Dear Millie + Sam,

Enclosed find two snapshots of a supposed to be soldier. Give one to Mom and tell her I am having one enlarged.

Has been very hot and after a hard week today has been a real break as I have been loafing around doing nothing.

I am happy to hear that you have your store all set. I wish for you both the same (?) and more than you wish yourselves.

Not much else to write. Regards to all Louie

Dear Folks,

Just a few lines to let you know that everything is O.K. I was very happy to talk to you last Sunday and also glad that things are going along pretty well.

This week this regiment goes on the alert, which means we can’t leave camp at all. So I may have a little trouble in calling next Sunday, so you will understand why in case I can’t get you.

My company went out for a two day maneuver but I happened to get K.P. so I didn’t go. I don’t mind as they stay out all night and sleep on the ground and as it poured cats and dogs here today it probably is quite miserable.

I wrote the girls and Harry Sunday and gave them my address so it won’t be necessary for you to give it to them.

This is a funny country its hot during the day and so far the nights have been very cool and good for sleeping. I hope it keeps up that way.

A lot of the boys that I left in Croft were transferred down here last Saturday so it makes it quite nice.

Well will close with best love and as I wrote will try hard to call Sunday.
Take good care of yourselves Love Louie
Change the Chronicle address

Thursday (June? 18? 1942?)
Dear Mom

I received your letter and didn’t like your referring to yourself as an old woman. You still have a long way to go before that is so.

I felt an awful lot better after reading it as you really gave me a very nice boost in spirit. I now know that I don’t have to worry about you at all and that is really a big lift.

I am sending some more stuff home also my pen as it is broken that is the top cap is lost. It can be replaced and the pen will be O.K.

I am buying a cheap one today.

We are still busy and will be for quite a while.

There not being anything else to write I’ll close (?) now with Regards to all

Love Louie

P.S.
I don’t think that I’ll call Sunday so don’t wait for a call

Louie.

Dear Mom,

I received the package and everything was what I needed the cookies were swell. Things are fairly easy so far this week and it even seems cooler. I hope you have a nice time over the fourth. It will be a change for a couple of days. Did Samuel’s (?) kid come back? I hope he did as it would be a lot easier than looking for a new one. I wrote everybody yesterday so that’s a job off my hands. We may get paid later this month so I’ll call collect again Sunday.

Until then yours with love Louie

P.S. Have Ellie write what’s doing in the stores

Tuesday (June, 1942?)
Dear Mom All,

Just a few words to let you know I am well and hope you are all the same.

When I came into the Service Club to write you a young fellow came up to me and asked if I didn’t come from Willimantic. I said yes and he said he used to be a customer of mine and then I recognized him. His name is Kelly and he lives on Lois Pl.

He is up the other end of camp and he told me that there is a few more boys from home where he is. So I am going up to see them in a day or two.

As for news down here there isn’t very much. We keep doing the same things and so are not getting worked to hard. Rumours have us going out into the woods for a couple of weeks next month.

How is Millie?

As you wanted me to, I am calling this Sunday morning So until then
Regards to all Love Louie

Monday Nite (6/30/42?)
Dear Folks,

Just a few lines before I leave this camp for North Carolina.

I tried to call Sunday but I guess you must of stayed over till Monday morning.

I hope you had a nice trip because the weather was pretty good.

We have packed up everything and are just waiting for the word to go.

We are going by truck and I guess I’ll get it a little easier because of working with supplies.

Well there isn’t much to write now but I’ll write often as I don’t know when I will be able to call but the first chance I get I will call.

So till then but regards to all Love Louie

P.S. Don’t forget to contact the Chronicle as it will chase me all over and until I get back to a regular camp it will be better to do without it. Also don’t forget the address is L. Cohen
