Dear Mom,

Just a few lines to report that I am well and hope that you are all the same.

I have been taking it easy as there isn’t much to do while the company is away. I am going on guard again to nite so that will keep me occupied for a while.

Everything is allright with the exception of getting mad. I haven’t had a letter the while week so I don’t know what has happened. I expect to get some mail today as some of the boys are coming back to camp to get ready to go on furlough Tuesday.

I am writing this letter in the phone room of the Service Club and all the time calls are being made to all parts of the country it gives you a kick to hear all the different calls being made.

Well, I guess I can’t write much more as there just isn’t anything to write about.

If you sent out the money I’ll probably get it soon. But you could send me some more as I think I’ll need it. I guess you won’t get rich on my check will you?

Regards to all and take good care of yourself.

Love Louie

P.S. All you have to write on my mail is P.F.C. Louis Cohen instead of all of it Louie

Dear Mom and All,

Just a few lines to tell you that I am well and am glad to hear that all of you are the same.

The way things look now I guess I won’t get home for about a month and so I will be able to see the new addition to the family.

The change of the furloughs to ten days has pushed them back and I am 36th on the list of those that go. So that means about four weeks. Well I can (?) if I were sure they won’t cancel them by that time. I’ll have to keep my fingers crossed. Because of that there won’t be any need of sending me any money right away. I’ll let you know when to send me some.

As soon as Ellie has completed the inventory of Cohen and Rothblat I would like to have him send me a letter with all the particulars.

Well I guess there isn’t much more that I can write so will close with best regards to all. Also I won’t call this weekend as there is no need and I hope that there won’t be any to.

Love Louie

P.S. Take good care of yourself and don’t work to hard as it isn’t necessary for you to do it. Louie

Dear Mom,

I received your letter and am very glad that everything is working out so nicely.

Only my getting the furlough is the one thing that is not quite right. If and when I do get it it will start on a Tuesday meaning that I won’t get home until late Tuesday or early Wednesday and it also means that I will have to leave on the next Wednesday in order to get back on time so that won’t give Ellie too many days away but it will do until more time comes around.

I am writing this in Atlanta as I asked for and got a 3 day pass. I’ll stay here overnight and tomorrow I’ll go over to Anniston Alabama and see Izzie Krug.

Thanks for the money it is coming in handy. I guess with this trip I am on now you better send me some more if you can spare it. I am getting to be an expensive proposition.

Well, not much else to write now but will write Monday after I get back.

Regards to all Love Louie

Dear Mom,

I just returned from Atlanta and found your letter awaiting me. I am sorry but I can’t get a furlough at this time. I spoke to the man in charge and the earliest bunch of 10 day furloughs goes out the 16th and then I am not listed to go with that bunch tho he did say he would see what he could do for me about going out with that bunch.

I made the trip to Atlanta and when I got there I found that Izzie had been sent back (?) Monday to school at N.O.J. University in PA. So I had a trip for nothing although I saw the country and as a result don’t feel too bad about the trip.

I got back to Atlanta bout 8:00 Sat. nite and spent the night and left for camp at 1:00 and arrived at 7.
In all I enjoyed a nice couple of days the change is scenery and a couple good meals go a long way to making you feel better.

I am sorry about the furlough mess but I can’t help it at all.

Well there isn’t much else I can write now So will close with regards to all.

Love Louie

Tuesday (Feb 1943?)
Dear Mom,

I received your last letter after I had written and I today went in to see my commander about getting off early. He said he appreciated my reason for wanting to go earlier but he couldn’t put me up ahead of my term. He did say that if I could get someone who was supposed to go next week to change places with me that I should come and see him. I therefore went around and so far have had no luck so I don’t expect to get home until Mar 3 or there abouts.

I have done everything I possibly could so I don’t know what else I can do.

Of course if the wedding takes place Sunday I will be very sorry to miss it and also not to be able to give Ellie a few days off. But he can take three days off in March of they don’t want.

Well there isn’t much more I can tell you. In case anything does change I’ll call up.. Regards to all Love Louie

Dear Mom,

Have just arrived in Columbia, SC so am dropping a card from here. I will write a letter Sunday. It was a long trip and very tiresome. I expect to get back to camp about 10:30. It is now 5:00pm.

Thanks for the nice ten days I spent. We will enjoy many more of them in the future.
