Dear Mom,
I was very happy to hear your voice this morning and to hear that everything is O.K. at home
As I told you we have been very busy here. The general inspected our company Friday so all of last week we worked like niggers. Thursday nite we didn’t go to sleep at all as we had to much work to do so I didn’t get to bed until Friday at 5:00 pm but then I slept until 6:00 a.m. the next morning.
The big louse was very pleased with our company and I hope he doesn’t come back for a long time.
Other than the usual things nothing has happened.
So not much else to say I’ll write in a couple of days. Until then Love to all Louie

Dear Miriam + Sam,

Received your letter and am happy to read that you and all of your immediate and almost family are well.

Since I last wrote you I went to the doctors and he told me that all I needed was to take treatments and so that is what I am doing. My captain as I told Mom is going to try to get me transferred but he has been very busy so I suppose I’ll have to wait a while before I know one way or the other as to what is going to happen.

Talked to Mom this morning as you know and was tickled to hear how well things are going I only hope they keep up. But don’t let Mom work too hard. You tell Ellie to get, if he can, plenty of help as she shouldn’t have to be tied down to much.

Well, not much else to write. Will close with love to all Yours Louie

P.S. Tell Mom I’ll write her in a day or two. Louie

Tuesday (Nov, 17? 1942?)
Dear Mom,

Just a few lines to let you know that things remain the same. I have a couple hours before I go on guard duty so I am taking this time to write a few letters.

Yesterday I ran and walked that six mile test again and I was in pretty fair shape when I finished. If they don’t go to fast I am O.K. Today we went over an obstacle course. High lines, ditches and all those things. It wasn’t to easy but I did what I could and let them go hang (?) for what I couldn’t do

How is the new factory going? This ought to be a very busy Christmas. I hope it is and hope that you can handle it without working to hard.

Well I’ll call Sunday so will not write until later so until Sunday Love to all Louie

Tuesday (November?, 1942?)
Dear Folks,

Just a few lines to let you know that I am O.K. and hope that you are also.

I am writing this at the service club at camp while a broadcast is being made. This one is over an Augusta station. On Nov 30 the Coca Cola broadcast over a network is going to be broadcast at 9:30.

The work here has been so easy lately that I am keeping my fingers crossed as it seems too good to last very long.

Last night the company went out into the woods and it poured and turned cold. So I felt very lucky when I didn’t have to go. They came back all wet and frozen.

I guess by the time you get this you will have the heater question settled. It is probably best that you got the new one after all.

As to the donation I think it was fine and I hope that we can do it next year.

Well, will close with best regards to all Love Louie

P.S. Mom, I don’t think I’ll call this Sunday as things as they are don’t warrant me spending your money that way. So I’ll write in a couple of days again. Louie

Dear Mom,

I just received your letter and was glad to read that you had the heater fixed. You must have saved some money by getting a used one and it probably will serve the purpose very well.

Not much change down here things remaining as they have been.

We are still busy checking property and expect to be busy for a little while at it.

I have worked, but not very hard, every nite this week. So when Sunday comes, I’m going out and stay away for the whole day.

You had better keep trying to get Izzie as it will be tough if he goes away before he settles things.

I hope business continues as well as it has been coming. Also did you get my watch yet?

Not much else to write will close now with best regards to all Love Louie

Sunday or Late Saturday (Nov? 1942?)

Dear Folks,
Just a few lines about nothing at all. I haven’t anything to write you that is new or interesting. I just came to town had a meal, went to Shul, took a walk and landed there at the U.S.O. so thought I’d write you a few lines but now that I started writing I don’t know what to write.

Am still busy and working late but not hard.

It has been very nice and warm here the last few days and it seems strange to have that kind of weather in Nov. but I guess it won’t last.

A little nigger just sold me an idea on shining my shoes so he’s working on me. Now I better rub his head for good luck or no worse than I have had.

Well will close now I will write in a couple of days.

Regards to all Love Louie

Nov, 17? 1942 letter:
It's amazing that there was some stuff that he couldn't do yet they still sent him to war. Maybe he was able to do everything a year from now when his company was sent over.

Another reference to this tough general and to his getting transferred. Maybe Louie doesn't like him (Patton?) very much?
