Dear Folks,
Arrived back at 6:30 Wed. afternoon and found everything as usual. It was a long tiresome trip and I am glad it is over. I spent an afternoon at Helen’s and saw all of them.
I’ll write a letter in a day or two. So until then. Love Louie
P.S. I won’t call up Sunday so don’t expect one Louie

Idle Gossip Sinks Ships
Tuesday (October? 1942?)

Dear Folks,

Just a few lines to say that all is well and much the same here.

I am using the stamp because it probably is much faster.

It has turned a little cooler here but I don’t mind it at all.

We have a new company commander and so we have been still busy taking an inventory.

How did my watch come out? I hope it is O.K. otherwise take it in to Norwich some time.

I am awfully glad business is so good in the kids store as it makes up for the drop on the other side. I guess that has to be expected.

Did the Shul and the Rabbi get that money that I gave them?

Not much else to write so will close with Regards to all Love Louie

P.S. Did the heater get fixed yet? Also please tell me if the Hamilton Propeller outfit is coming in or is it baloney.
Take care of yourselves Louie

Sunday October 25 (1942?)
Dear Mom,

I would have written much sooner but I have been very busy and just couldn’t get the time to do it.

When I got back I found the place turned upside down. A big general came here and inspected the camp and said it was one of the dirtiest he had ever seen and so our general got busy and we have had to give this camp a cleaning up.

We have it pretty well set by now but we will have to keep it clean from now on.

The way it looks around here now we will be here, I hope, for quite a while.

I hope by the time you get this letter that the heater is all set and operating as it must be getting cool at home. Right here it is fairly warm.

I think that as long as my watch is home you might as well keep it there as down here it will keep being banged around and as long as I have this old one and it keeps good time, I’ll use it.

Has the new factory opened? I suppose it has.

Well, there isn’t much else to write so will close now. I’ll write again in a couple of days so until then Love Louie

This 3 week gap in letter writing I believe means that he was home on furlough for a while or these letters were not saved.
