Dear Millie,
I meant to write sooner but just didn’t for no good reason.
Am feeling O.K. and coming along nicely.
How is your mob? I hope they are all well. And how is Sam? And the furniture market? I guess he is busy right now. You might tell Mom not to worry about me as I haven’t been giving her any kind of a line at all. Not much else to say. Regards to Sam I’ll write again before long. As ever Louie

Dear Mom,
Just a few lines to let you know that I am feeling O.K. and that everything is going along very nicely. As yet I haven’t heard from home in over a month and so hope that all of you back there are in good health.
England is enjoying some very nice weather for this time of the year which is very unusual. It’s gotten so that the sun comes out some part of each day and the people are getting to talk and act like Californians.
I suppose by the time you get this you will all be very busy with the Christmas rush. I hope it is even better than last years. There must be a bit of hog (?) in me.
Have Humpy’s folks heard from him lately?
Not much else to say at this time. Regards to everyone. Take good care of yourself. Love Louie

Dear Mom,
Am writing V mail and I am told that, right now because of the big mail rush it is faster than air mail.
I am fine and coming along O.K. I went into town today and these English towns haven’t changed any in the six months that I was away from them. They still can keep this place as for me it has not appeal whatsoever. Am still looking forward to getting some mail from home.
Not much else to say. Regards to Ellie. I hope he has his hands full with the Christmas rush. Regards to all the rest of the family. Take good care of yourself. Love Louie

Dear Helen
Received some mail finally and am happy to learn that all of you in Red Bank are in good health. As for myself, I am OK and coming along very well. I have been able to get out and so have gone into town several times. It is quite a change to get into a city after spending so much time in the woods. Another thing is the different types of noises one hears and that in itself is something. There is a big difference between street noises and the bursts of shell fire.
I enjoyed Jane’s letter very much. Tell her for me that she is certainly a very learned young woman. Regards to Henry and the children. As ever Louie

Yesterday I went to a Chanukah service in town and enjoyed it very much. Even had potato Lottkes which was quite a treat.
Two of the nurses at this hosp. are from Willimantic. One is the Marvel girl (?) whose brother was the aviator, the other is a daughter of Rice who used to be in the Jordan House (?).
Have still to get mail from home it is now over five weeks since I last had mail.
Not much else to say at this time. Regards to the family and take care of yourself. Love Louie

Dear Mom,
Just to let you know that I am fine and hope that all of you at home are well and getting a bit of rest after the rush. Or was there one? I hope business was good for the season.
I would have written sooner but because of the holiday mail was stopped and so it meant a few days without any incoming or outgoing mail.
We have spent a nice quiet day good meal and listening to the radio all day. It is a bit colder than it has been and is more like the weather at home, tho there is no snow.
Not much else to write at this time except that I wish all of you a very Happy New Year and hope that the next one will be a better year for all of us. Regards to all Take good care of yourself Love Louie

Dear Mom,
Have just received your letter of the 13th which was the first one I received with the hospital address. I am fine and there is no need of your worrying. My eye will be O.K. it is clearing up very nicely and as for getting home I am afraid it will be a bit of time before I can get to do that. However, I can wait as long as the good Lord will let me get back.
It has turned very cold for this country and so I haven’t gone out very much lately. I read in the papers that you back there are having a lot of snow and cold I hope the stoker is working O.K.
I guess I have covered all the news that I can think to write about. My regards to all the gang and thanks to the many well wishes take good care of yourself and don’t forget that I am O.K. Love Louie

Dear Mom, Just a few lines to let you know that I am fine and hope that all of you are in good health also. From now on you should use my old address as I will be going back to my outfit in a day or two. It will take me about ten days to get back there and I’ll try to write as often as I can. It of course means another period of no mail for me as I will be moving ahead and it will take more time before it catches up.
Other than that there isn’t much new that I can tell you about. My only hope is that I can see this damn war throu and get home in good health and find all of you is the same way. That is it so my best regards to all Take care of yourself Love Louie

Dec. 19, 1944 letter:
So basically he was in a US Military hospital for a month before having any contact from home.
Dec 28, 1944 letter:
He had stone taken out of his eye? He must have had a scar there when he came home. One would think he was also knocked unconscious when the injury occurred.
I knew that it was his eye that was hurt. Fortunately he did not have a problem with vision. I really thought tha he had been injured on his face close to the eye. Probably both areas. do not remember Uncle Louie talking about his injury. In fact do not really rmember him talking about the war. Of course that was a long time ago.
